When it is time for HD Ready to go, it is time for FULL HD.

Dear readers

It was over two years ago I own a LG LCD TV 32’ inch that I considered once my pride and joy for all my favourite entertainment pleasures. I paid with my own salary every month of two years, which cost more than it is original price for a HD Ready TV that I at that time did not know the meaning of until it was too late and realize I should have read up more about high definition. Then when it was done, I had paid all my dues since last February it dawned me that to own a FULL HD TV was the wise choice… and finally, I bought one yesterday.

It was just a moment yesterday; I received a call early in the morning from someone who was curious about my advertisement of my old LG TV I posted in Mudah.Com enquired about it. I talk to the caller and then just without thinking that he is a potential buyer (which in many numerous times I got many phone calls, SMSes and emails that in turn never return my replies) that a few minutes later he SMS me about the price. We had some negotiations about the price and I agree upon the price of RM 1,350 as payment to me and to be cash on delivery on the same day. Happy I was that Ree Nee and I return home and I went and packed my TV with the original box packaging I did not throw. From then on, I just wait once that is done and expect the phone call from the buyer to meet up opposite Kelana Jaya LRT Station near King Crab. He was a friendly person and he wanted to buy my old LCD for his café and soon after loading my old TV to his car and I received my money, it was off to Sunway Pyramid to buy my new FULL HD LCD TV.

My old LG 32'inch HD Ready LCD TV; a rather solid TV I reckon...

… little did I know when I was there it was out of stock. And little did I know the hassle of finding the model I want and hopefully soon was a hassle of pricing as well.

When I was there, the original price of the LG TV I wanted was RM 2,599. If J-Card member (using my mum’s card), it will only cost RM 2,299 (before it was RM 2,399; shorter by a hundred). Gleefully and like a small child, wanting his new found toy and ask the sales promoter about the LCD I wanted… all I get was “sorry sir… out of stock sekarang”

That seriously makes me panic a bit. The first thing that goes through my mind was “NO TV” that later strings along with other points that sums up my “NO TV” thinking:-

1). I cannot play my PS3

2). I cannot watch my movies on Blu-Ray

3). I cannot watch my movies/TV Series/Animes on DVD

4). I cannot watch my Astro (but then, my Astro had been kaput for days)

5). NO TV

Ree Nee look at me and she said the irony of this happening. My mum laughed at me (my parents followed me, as they too want to buy) for the irony too. Quickly, I start to think where else of which Jusco branch there is for me to buy the same model. My dad said, “let’s go to 1 Utama” and I was reluctant to go there because the last time I was there the price was RM 2,799 and nothing about J-Card member price. I suggested to him Mid-Valley and he said it was not a good time to go there, as parking is a hassle in the afternoon. Going to IOI Mall in Puchong was something I refuse to go, as that place is another parking problem. Going to Jusco Cheras is far… and so it was back to 1 Utama we go.

1 Utama so far finding a place to park on Sunday is alright still if you park at the Old Wing (could never understand why everyone goes to New Wing to find parking space). Once there, the same model of LG LCD TV was there and we go and looked for a sales promoter to ask whether there is any J-Card member price. My dad found one and asked and said there is. The only difference was the price was not the same as in Sunway Pyramid but rather back, to how much it was for J-Card member. And so I agree on price and wait for them to check if there are stock. Took us 20 over minutes of waiting before stock arrives and then come the hassle of pricing again – I was told it cost RM 2,499 instead of RM 2,399 by a different sales promoter. Both my dad and I told off the sales promoter that the other sales promoter said it was RM 2,399 and they double check with their headquarters and realize they have not update the price over at 1 Utama branch. We did a query about why Sunway Pyramid was much cheaper and they could not give us the answer at all. Still, RM 2,399 is RM 2,399 and so I paid what was what I had from my old TV and my mum helped me out on the loan (which I was suppose to pay her back in 7 months without interest; interest can seriously dampens your wallet) to get my FULL HD LCD TV. And off I go with my newfound toy… for only 40 minutes.

Must be wondering why 40 minutes right? Well, I did reached home, I did fix up my LCD TV on my own until I got a phone call from my parents that they want me to return to 1 Utama because… they want my opinion on a Panasonic Plasma Full HD TV 42’ inch.

… and I never get a chance to test my own TV first. T_T

Anyway, back to 1 Utama me and Ree Nee we went and I was at BEST (where my parents was) and they point out the Plasma TV my dad was telling me that my mum wanted a 42’inch in size and it the cost was RM 4,499. I look at it and think my dad would not pay for that kind of price at all but turns out the reason he so wanted to buy this is because he can add a Blu-Ray Panasonic player for only RM 100. That widens up my thinking and I said to my dad “if you have the money to buy, buy it. It’s worth the amount since Blu-Ray players are very expensive these days).

And so he did (only that his Plasma TV will be delivered to him on this coming Wednesday) but he is paying by instalment via credit card with 0% interest for 12 months. Gotten his Blu-Ray now but the HDMI cable will be given to him on the same day his Plasma TV will be delivered to him.

In just one day – two FULL HD TVs…

We had dinner together at Canton-i, discussing about the food and then dad was asking what Blu-Ray movies I have so he can watch. We return slightly over 8pm and then I started to test my Blu-Ray disc on my newfound toy through the PS3. Such vibrant colours and smoothness that it is almost flawless I enjoy. I tested movies like “Transformers”, “30 Days of Night” and “Ip Man” (turns out Ip Man was very grainy, I have to find out why). Me and Ree Nee ended up watching “Frank Miller’s Sin City”, a crime-noir based upon the classic graphic novels and before the day ended with me testing my Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare game and I send her home.

I am glad I got what I wanted. Although there are times I was told “you sure later will change your TV lar in a few years time” a few times today, I believe this will keep me more than just a few years of pure entertainment cravings…

Yours truly,

hairylgs
